Citation: Peters, J. A. (2006).
Luna. New York, NY: Little, Brown and Company. Tr. $7.99. ISBN: 9780316011273. Format:
Paperback.
Annotation: Luna is the story of Reagan, a sophomore in
high school, and her brother, Liam, who is really her sister, Luna.
Book Talk: Reagan understands Liam’s need to be Luna;
after all, he is a girl born into a boy’s body.
However, Reagan struggles with Liam’s need to become Luna full-time.
It’s
horrible because you want to be this person you are in here…and here. But you
can’t because you don’t look the way you should. You look like a guy. And that’s what people expect you to be. Every day you have to put on this act, play a
role, and the only time you can ever be free is when you’re alone, when
nobody’s watching and you can let yourself go.
In your world, your private world, you can present yourself the way you
want the world to see you and treat you.
Peter’s does a
wonderful job helping us to understand both Reagan and Luna in her story about
a girl and her transgender sibling.
